30 DOPE ~ Day 4: Sour(puss)

Why yes, I did flip this post upside down. I have an excellent reason rooted in my acute sense of self-preservation. We'll leave it that, m'kay?

Some of you have wondered about the string of photos sitting on the bottom of my posts. When I first started this blog, I ended each post with "Peace." During the last six months of 2010 I participated in a weekly A-Z challenge. To make it more interesting, I committed to posting photos of things I saw in nature that looked like the letters of the alphabet. After posting A, I raised the stakes by posting a letter I found in the clouds. From this was born Deckside Font©. This simple collage has been my sign-off ever since.

Over the past few years I've photographed a number of road races. The expressions on runners' faces as they're approaching or crossing the finish line run the gamut from exhaustion to exhilaration. In the years I've been shooting runners I've never seen anything quite like this.

She ran a good race but had unreasonably high hopes of posting a personal best.

For more interpretations of Sour check out the photos posted by these other grumpy Guses.

  12. Shoot! She should be happy - if I could run a race and finish, I'd be ecstatic! Love the photo!

  13. This is why I posted the PEACE collage above her picture. I've met her a time or 2 at races since I'm good friends with a few people she knows. Since this automatically posts to FB through networked blogs, I didn't want her face to be the photo that appeared on my wall. Lemmetellya, I'm always thinking 3 steps ahead. Damn shame I never learned how to play chess.

  14. Me too. The worst part about this is that she hasn't been running well and this was her best finishing time since April. She really was putting on a show for her parents who were just lovely.

  15. Did I ask you about your cloud pictures? I know I was going to and then I didn't and now I can't remember if I changed my mind again, but I thought I didn't say anything and then you explain it today, so THANKS! Also? I couldn't run a race wearing that necklace, that would annoy me to no end, the constant slamming against my collar bone. A great shot for sour today!

  16. That's a very funny, if sour, photo, and perfectly expresses my feelings about all forms of exercise. :)

  26. That is one sour expression! Hopefully a good, stiff drink helped her mood. As for your sign-off symbol, your nature and cloud ABCs were some of my favorite reads. I can't figure our how to comment and link it back to my page. Let me know if I'm missing something. Hope your weekend is a fabulous one.

  27. At this point, I'm not sure how you link back to your URL. It used to be easy but Disqus just rolled out a new release and it's different in many ways. I got a Disqus account a long time ago for ease of commenting on other blogs. I only put it on my own blog in April. With an account used for commenting, there was a tiny little link that read something like "Link to your URL or website" that you'd need to click and enter your blog's URL. That would stay functional until you deleted cookies and site plug-ins. Since I do that fairly regularly, I used to have to log back into Disqus & once again enter the URL. You could always open an account and try it out (or check out disqus.com help ~ which is usually not too helpful).
