While I could have photographed my short stack of worthless Canadian quarters, I chose this dollar coin especially for Mike WJ because I know how much he loves our fine feathered friends, especially when they've been cast in nickel and plated in bronze.
To see what the others have posted for today's prompt please head on over to Ziva's Bank and Trust.

ha. a short stack of quarters crossed my mind too, but i didn't have a short stack of quarters. :)
ReplyDeletethat is a pretty cool coin....all ours are covered with stuffy old politicians and monuments....its neat to see coins from around the world and what they put on them...
ReplyDeletePerfectly presented. Is that a bed of speckled formica? We used to have a counter top just like that!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good one!!!
ReplyDeletethat is a cool looking coin!
ReplyDeleteis that a loonie or a tunie?
ReplyDeleteMake fun all you want. But that loonie's worth more than it's American counterpart.
ReplyDeleteyou just make me laugh with your wryness. :)
ReplyDeleteFinally! A bird ! I had almost lost hope...now for that short stack of quarters - have you learned to catch them off of your elbow?!? - that's about all that they are good for...
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, that's a pretty photo of a coin!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by worthless? Our quarters have mooses on them! Moosen? Meese? Hoo boy...time for more coffee.
ReplyDeleteThese look much more interesting than our currency.
ReplyDeleteMaking fun is one of my best things, especially when I can take a 'cheap shot' at Canadian currency. The only reason I have the stuff kicking around is because it's so much prettier than ours and it doesn't work in any US machines that take coins.
ReplyDeleteSince it was only minted for a couple of years, the collector's value is probably higher than its face value in either country.
I love Canadian currency. It's all so pretty. Ziva posted a photo of Finnish coins. Those are fun too.
ReplyDeleteAs fond as I am of seeing the queen on your currency, the moose needs a bit of makeover. Moose are proud and strong. That rendition gives Canadian moose a really bad rep.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you, Ziva. It's a pretty coin too.
ReplyDeleteHave you looked at that list of prompts? I can't find a good place to toss in a bird anywhere. ::sigh::
ReplyDeleteIf I weren't so uncoordinated, I might just give that trick a go. Is it one of your skills?
In Canada they refer to these as 'loonies' but 'tunies' works too.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I have it is because it's such a pretty coin. Oh, and I used to collect all types of coins before I decluttered. Had I known I someday need a cool picture of interesting coins, I would have saved them.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it gorgeous? It feels nice too.
ReplyDeleteYES! It's about 60 years old and it still hasn't been replaced. Unlike so many of my friends, I don't replace much unless it's become useless, not obsolete or out of fashion. I've got better things to spend my money on like tickets to NASCAR races and donating to worthy causes. Besides, when we finally sell, it could be back in vogue. That's my long-term plan.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Theirs all have the queen on one side and something fun on the other. This is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteMy coin jar runneth over with US quarters but I only have about 10 Canadians. I didn't want to take a set shot so settled for pointing and shooting an easy subject.
ReplyDeleteAw shucks.
ReplyDeleteLisa, I was just going to say the same thing. As least they're pretty.
ReplyDeleteCan you just stand at the border and throw them across? At least Canadian coins aren't all about the worship of old white men.
ReplyDeleteIt'd cost so much in gas to get to the border from here, it's cheaper to mail 'em.
ReplyDeleteI got rid of my collection of foreign coins except for these. Seeing the queen's face always makes me smile. Dead white men and the buildings we've erected in their honor has gotten old.
We get a lot of Canadian geese in our area. They don't leave coins, but they do leave a lot of souvenirs of their presence. I prefer the coins.
ReplyDeleteIt may be useless in the states, but it's sure a pretty coin!
ReplyDelete=)
Ooh, ahh. Nice loon. I've got dimes. I'll be happy to send those away.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I've kept it. It's also from 1988 and had a limited run. Could be worth more than a buck some day. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWith my dollar and quarters plus your dimes, we could really help boost the Canadian economy. BOOYAH!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm going to have to disagree with you, right? I love these birds. That they hang around almost year round is such a treat. I've never seen the excrement of a Canadian Goose but I'll take your word for it that it's unpleasant. Heading off to get changed for the game. Eek! I almost missed my scheduled changing time. Glad the next 2 games are night games.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAin't it perty? They may speak funny but they have some gorgeous money.
ReplyDeleteHA!
ReplyDeleteHarry and Zoe love those birds too! They love to chase them! Zoe caught one once, but she just laid on top of it smiling. She was very sad when we wouldn't let her keep her little friend.
ReplyDeleteFor some strange reason, these are the only birds I do like. :-)
ReplyDeleteFor some strange reason, I've never actually seen a living loon. I'm not sure how that happened but they never seem to be where I am and I'm never where they are. I hate that about loons.
ReplyDeleteI have an incredible visual of what that had to look like. Poor Zoe and poor goose.
ReplyDeleteThe goose shook his head before he flew off. He couldn't believe that happened.
ReplyDeleteYou did an excellent job on this photo... I really love the angle and the fading... great great job!
ReplyDeleteI knew you couldn't hold out forever, Cheryl. But you know what? I'm proud of you, girl. Sixteen days without a bird has got to be a personal record. Now don't give up just because you slipped up today. Remember, it's one day at time...
ReplyDeleteThey usually nest near Bigfoot. Bigfeet. Bigfeets.
ReplyDeleteFuck.
Sasquatch.
Cheryl's so wry you could make bread out of her.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder I've never seen one. Damn that Sasquatch all to hell and back.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that was hysterical!
ReplyDeleteThat would be a mighty dry loaf.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine.
ReplyDeleteI don't count this as a major setback since that loon isn't alive. I do feel the pressure building and posting this didn't help one little bit. The day will come with this blog is going to explode with birds. ODAAT is easy with most of my vices, but this one? It's bone deep and runs through my veins.
ReplyDeleteyeah, they are worthless south of the border, but i do love our canadian coins ... and the new bills made from plastic ... google a picture of the new canadian 50 dollar bill ... coolness!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your money too. So much more colorful than ours. That new 50 dollar bill is wild. I'm not a big fan of old men on money (that's always been the model for our money) but I do love that boat on the back. I couldn't find a picture that aptly showed the money as being plastic. I guess I'll just have to finally get my passport and head north before the snow flies.
ReplyDeleteI did as Jo W suggested and Googled the new Canadian 50 dollar bill. Polymer money! What next? It's pretty cool though :)
ReplyDeleteI've got a small collection of stray coins which have turned up in my change at one time or another, but they are from all over the place so not worth exchanging. They are appealing in a weird sort of way though.
