Some days you're the bug; other days you're the windshield. From late May until early July, I was the bug.
Every. Single. Day.
When I finally sought medical help, the doc told me what I already knew: static migraine. In other words: your head is going to hurt like hell until it doesn't and you're going to wish you'd never been born until you don't. It took over a month to find the source of the problem.
July 3rd was the first day my brain didn't feel like it was being hammered on by the squirrels that live in my skull.
A day worth celebrating.
So I shot it.

| Butt-ugly Green Frog |

| Blue Corporal Dragonfly (rare in this area) |
 |
| Another Blue Corporal Dragonfly |
 |
| Blue Dasher |
 |
| Pair of White-tailed Deer (buck with newly sprouted antlers that aren't visible because he's looking away) |
 |
| Full Buck Moon rising ~ oddly distorted until it rose above heat waves or smog hanging low over the ocean |
 |
| Lobster boat motoring under the Full Thunder Moon (the name I prefer) |

| You knew all those lighted shots were fireworks, right? |
UPDATE: Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it's back. See you when the jackhammers stop.
wow! so sorry to hear of your most terrible month! glad you are back!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you have gone missing for so long.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, with a good head.
I was wondering where you were. I'm glad you are doing better. I bet your head pretty much felt like those fireworks, huh.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your head feels better! I was a little worried that all those lighted shots were of your head exploding. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd um, are you sure that's a lobster boat? I think maybe it's the boat that goes and fishes up all the eyes those evil birds pecked out.
Nice to have you back, Cheryl, and brilliant photos, as always. Yes, even the butt-ugly frog.
And you shot it wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you've been having migraines. My hubby gets them, and they are so miserable. (As you know all too well, I'm afraid.)
He takes cafergot, a combo of caffeine and ergotamine. It works for him, thankfully. Before he found that remedy, he used to suffer for days on end.
Hope you've found your magic bullet, too.
=)
welcome back my friend ... i am so glad to hear that the squirrels have finally left! Your photos, stunning ... gotta say I just love all of the moon shots!
ReplyDeleteWell I was hoping they were fireworks and not images of the inside of your aching head! The frog is beautiful, and the dragonfly breathtaking...and then the moon...oh the moon...amazing. You are simply amazing. Thanks so much for sharing...and letting us know where you've been. I'm been a bit worried.
ReplyDeleteacupunture helps me...alot
ReplyDeletei am glad you are feeling better....ack...some great shots...love th frogs and dragonflies...did not see many fireworks here with the power out and 8 straight days over 100 we might have combusted...
ReplyDeleteOh dear I know how you felt! Have just found out that is what my headaches are and the dreadful flashing lights that take away my sight...don't know that I could go a month though, 3 days appears to be my longest!! So glad for you that it is over and I love the pics!
ReplyDeleteThanks Theresa. Not quite back. Damn fool headache has returned with a vengeance. They shoot horses for this, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks Viki. Was feeling better. It's back. The one thing I haven't tried is banging my head against the wall. Beginning to give that some serious consideration.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicky. Trust me, the inside of my head didn't look anywhere near as pretty as that. Unfortunately the feeling betterness has disappeared along with my will to live.
ReplyDeleteTime to start banging my head against the wall. It's the one thing I haven't tried. Who knows, I just might work. GAH!
Thanks Sue. It was a good day. I'd been hoping the annoying residual headaches would finally end too. Instead, they've flared up into a full blown cycle of cluster headaches again. I'm losing what's left of my mind.
ReplyDeleteAnnnnnnnnnnnnnd they're back. Just shoot me now, m'kay?
ReplyDeleteTrust me, Dawn, what the inside of my head looked like and is looking like again is nowhere as pretty as fireworks. I'll be off the grid for awhile again until I can find a way to end this cycle. Hope you're well.
ReplyDeleteHope you guys get some relief from that heat. My heart goes out to all of you who're stuck in THAT cycle of madness.
ReplyDeleteI wish you luck in finding some help. I had a few days with just a bit of nagging headache and now the full-blown cluster migraines are back. Heading back off the grid again.
ReplyDeleteI get migranes and know that feeling all to well, living caffeine 7 alcohol free helps but it's not the whole story. Hope you stay well. Great Photo's btw :-)
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about the headaches! Damn, Cheryl! That's some nasty stuff! Your dragonflies are exquisite! Actually, I even love the "butt ugly" frog! I really hope you are feeling better really soon. I've missed you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry this is happening again...and hope you can find a way out of it,.
ReplyDeleteOh man! I'm sorry you are in so much pain! Try to rest until it passes honey. xoxo
ReplyDeleteWell, you've more than made up for your absence. Fabulous shots! I had a damsel fly land on my finger...no camera in sight. I hope you're feeling better from here on out. I think it was residual fallout from your 30 days on Insanityl
ReplyDeleteHoping you feel great very soon!
ReplyDeleteWishing YOU a sweet week

I am so so so so so sorry to hear about your ordeal but your pictures are amazing as always! I miss you and hope you get well soon!
ReplyDeleteHope you're doing better...been thinking about you... - Dawn
ReplyDeleteI am IN AWE!!!! IN AWE!! Those Dragon Fly photos are so incredible, I'd actually like to BUY them and FRAME them, and hang them on the walls of my house. Is that possible? Do you sell your photographs at all?
ReplyDeleteLove the dragonfly photos... hate that you have migraines. Do the fireworks photos represent what your head feels like?
ReplyDeleteDamn -- very sorry to hear about the migraines. Having gone through three months of intense, persistent headaches over the winter, I sympathize... and hope very much you're on the mend soon.
ReplyDeleteOn a peripheral note: beautiful, beautiful shots. (as always.)
These Superior Snaps are amazing! Hope you're feeling better. Beauty indeed soothes the savage breast, or something like that. Please keep in touch!
ReplyDeleteMigraines suck - I get 'em myself. I realized that I haven't commented here in...ever. Hope this makes up for it!

If your good days yield such gorgeous shots as these, there's one more reason I hope you have more of them.
ReplyDeleteCame here via Jason from Dadcentric who gave you a shoutout on my blog. Glad to have found you! And feel better, will ya?
OMG Cheyl, I've suffered migraines for years, and they've had their different causes over that time...but the only ones that lasted more than a week were the ones I had from conception to birth. One of the reasons I only have two children. The other reasons for the three I didn't get to keep still allude me.. I can't imagine suffering that and not knowing that perhaps at the end there would be a very good reason for having suffered.
ReplyDeleteI find it humbling that you called my point and shoot $140 camera shots stunning after seeing these. I have a thing for dragon flies. You rock. Glad you found relief.
Thanks for the enduring friendship,
Tina @ Life is Good
Thanks for the comment Cheryl...hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThat is CRAZY. Your pictures could have come from my camera! I have dragon flies, the moon over the ocean, deer... that is so neat. Except yours are OH SO MUCH BETTER. I would love to know how you got the dragonflies so clear with the faded background. I love that look.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so sorry to hear this, Cheryl. Does acupuncture help? It's my go to when I've been in major physical distress. I'm sure you've tried everything. Thinking of you and wishing you well.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you are feeling at least a little better Cheryl. Have missed you and your dry sense of humor. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks Felice. Sorry for being so long in getting back to you. I just haven't felt well enough until now.
ReplyDeleteAh Linda, thank you a million for your well wishes. Glad someone likes that frog, They run away whenever they see my camera. Go figure. Feeling good enough to finally say thanks & hang on in the Land O' Blogs a bit. (Love your trampy shoes all to hell and back.)
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't fallout rather falling apart. Sorry it took so long to respond but it took that long to feel better.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cloudia. And I'm sorry for the very late response. It's taken all this time to finally feel better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terra. Sorry to be so long in getting back to you but I've only started feeling better over the past couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dawn. I appreciate your keeping me in your thoughts. It probably helped.
ReplyDeleteMeleah, I haven't figured out where or how to actually sell my photos. What size were you looking for? I've got a slew of new ones I'm nearly ready to post. At some point I've got to get my act together but that'll be when I'm finally really feeling good, not just better than death warmed over.
ReplyDeleteThe fireworks do indeed represent what's been going on inside my head. Glad someone noticed.
ReplyDeleteThanks buddy. Finally over the worst of it. A couple more tweaks and I'll be out of the darkness and into the light. I sure wish someone had had the presence of mind to just shoot me when this all started.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa. Finally feeling better. I'll be over to visit once I get back on track.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comment over on Mom101. And thanks for thinking about me. It's been a helluva ride back to something close to fair health.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind thoughts. Guess what? I AM finally feeling better. I think all it took was someone to tell me what to do.
ReplyDeleteSucks, doesn't it? This took way too long to figure out.
ReplyDeleteAnn, it's the one thing I didn't try, mostly because I was so busy putting fires with other health issues. Once things settle down, it's on my list.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy. I miss me too.
ReplyDeleteMigraines: they knock me out at least once a month.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you have these, too.
I do have to say, off track, but WOW those are some fantastic fireworks shots. SO dark and the colors caught so bright and clear.
BEAUTIFUL job. Thank you for sharing with us.
I'll take any size!!
