The Final Gateway

Both in thought and in feeling, even though time be real, to realise the unimportance of time is the gate of wisdom.

~ Bertrand Russell

I was playing around with this photo in PicMonkey and decided to try one of the free-for-now oddball effects.

This is what happened when I pushed the Invert button.

I feel as though I could walk into eternity.

  3. great gate, love the design of the wrought iron - the inverted is interesting, making it look like a holy place - which I suppose it is.  thanks for your comment on 'flowers' Spritzer is a clever boy - has yet learned 'come' 'stay' and finished for when we are worn out.  he need a young person to play with....

  4. I love cemeteries.  I find them beautiful and restful places.  The photos are marvelous.  Your skills are mad!

  8. "The original Stairway to Heaven", I like, I like very much.

  9. I like the last inverted effect on the photo. It made it look like there is a wooden pathway leading to the cross or the grave. We could have a symbolic discussion here.

Wow, I was thinking the same thing.  They say you see a white light...  Great photo.

  11. Beautiful gate - love how you've created the "white light" - a walk into eternity. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  12. Isn't it oddly intriguing? Turns the somber mood into something completely different.

  13. I've had my eye of this gate for a while. Took this challenge to finally get my butt out there to shoot it.

Spritz probably needs your loving family more than he needs a young person. If he knows those 3 commands, you're doing well. Shepherd's are smart and so, so sweet.

  14. Thanks Linda. There are so many beautiful ones in this area, it's hard not to fall in love with them. This one is quite old and very, very peaceful.

  15. PicMonkey is being developed and upgraded by the same folks responsible for Picnik (which Google pulled, removed some great features, and added to G+ to encourage more users to join). It's easy to use and lots of fun.

  16. Nah, too busy to go there this weekend. Besides, the NASCAR All-Star Race is on tonight. Maybe The Jeff will blow another engine, cut a tire, or get caught up in another wreck. It's been a tough year to enjoy watching the races.

  17. Thanks MizzKay. I almost used that as the title since the inverted colors make those shadows look like stairs. Good eye to notice.

  18. I almost agree since I thought it looked like a lit wooden pathway to an altar of sorts. St. Peter's pulpit on judgment day? Definitely a lot going on here that's evocative even to a heathen like me.

  19. So glad you like it! Thanks for dropping by.

  20. It was a huge surprise to see what materialized after inverting the colors. It changes the mood of the photo completely.

That's a really cool special effect!

  22. Incredible! The first shot actually looks very inviting. The second, while awesomely cool, not so much. :-)

  23. Love that first shot.  The second does remind me a walk into something but I don't think that is an eternity I would like, although I love purple.  Love your title!

  24. Good effect! I like the vision of the walk into the light!

  25. I love that wrought iron gate, so lovely!

  26. I'm torn between the two. I think each is warmly welcoming in its own fashion. What I like best about the inverted colors is all the gold. The purple? Not so much.

  27. On occasion I prefer illusion to reality. I was blown away by all that shimmery gold in the inverted copy. Funny thing is that I've had my eye on that gate for over a month. Took FMTSO to finally go shoot it!

  28. I just love all the gold that appeared like magic!

  29. I love the illusion of all that golden light. I prefer the original but I'm a sucker for gold.

  30. Oooooh. I might just have to go try this myself! How cool. So fun to play with effects.

  31. At first glance I thought I liked the straight picture best but the photoshopped version kept calling me back. Nice job.

  32. wow, that is something what one button will do to a photo...this is really, really terrific!!

  33. Wow. Wow. Wow. I really HATE cemeteries. But you managed to make this one look beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow, that takes my breath away. Otherworldly and a story waiting to happen...

  35. I'm more of a purist myself, but sometimes effects change the entire mood.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks Mark. I had the same problem. Like what's real but that gold is so alluring.

  37. Sometimes effects are fun, aren't they?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks Meleah. It really is quite beautiful. The older ones just have so much character.

  39. Thanks C. Now go write that story! ;-)

  40. Love that effect ... it's perfect for that photo!

  41. I discovered textures this year and love using them for special effects. Isn't messin' with a perfectly good shot fun?

  42. Oh my gosh, that last one looks just like a dream. JUST like it.
