30 Days of Photographs II: Mirror

This is how many deal with living on what lies beyond ~ "Hidden Curves Ahead"

mirrors hung on trees
not as odd as one might think
roads were once cow paths

Tomorrow's prompt is: A Stranger. This should be a simple since New Englanders are famous for their friendliness.

  1. It's like a window to another world.

  2. I really like how the mirror ends up framing the building and, that the surrounding branches are like a detail from within the mirrored object! I really love the whole quintessentially New England theme of your shots :-)

  6. That? Is hands down my FAVORITE photo of the day!

  7. oh - LOVE this!!! The tree branches all tangled surrounding the mirror - perfect! The image in the mirror - perfect! Is it a converted barn?

  8. love the mirror image with the warping of the roofline and wires and all of the little bends and twists that wont be there in the real image !!!  i am totally enjoying your take on these challenges!

  9. It could be, but I doubt it. There used to be homes with acres of land along this road.  Now there are far more homes each with far less land. Most of them are not particularly old for our area.

  10. That's a great shot!

Here, some farms and rural houses have mirrors for exactly the same purpose!

  11. This one is so different. The whole oval frame mirroring somewhere else, fixed to a tree and just watching, it's all to perfect...did you get permission to photograph my house?

  12. That would come in handy if you live on a busy street with multiple blind spots. Great photo, Cheryl!

  13. That's exactly what it's for. This was taken along Rt 1-A, the road to the beach for many who head there from Portsmouth. It's only 2 lanes wide with almost no shoulder on either side. It's one of those winding roads that have a gazillion blind spots, tons of cyclists and runners, and people who need to get safely into and out of their driveways.

  14. Damn! I knew I forgot something.

(Almost got run over multiple times because this is a blind spot. Funny thing is, I never noticed the owner working in her front yard. When I was walking back to my car, she hollered over to me and asked what I was doing. Never occurred to me that someone might feel their privacy was invaded since this is there for them to get into and out of their driveway without running into the millions of cars, cyclists, and runners.)

  15. See, you'd feel right at home in the New Country.

  16. Thanks. I kinda planned the shot that way while trying not to get hit by passing cars. ;-)

I'm glad you're enjoying New England. Sometimes I think it's the best place in the whole world. Other times, it snows and I want to move just a wee bit south.

A mirror to remind how beautiful our world is.

  21. Thanks Ziva. I told you I had a dandy shot for today. I was hoping you'd be shivering in your shoes and be ready to hand me the whip for a week.

  22. Such a beautiful photo.  Here in the north Georgia mountains, I see mirrors like these to aide residents in getting out of their driveway!

I wish I could package up a Victorian-era porch and send it to you complete with southern sweet tea or frosty lemonade!

  23. What a great picture. I love how you've framed it.

  24. Nice find for Mirror! I love the unique take on the prompt. So glad you didn't get taken out by a car or cyclist! But you got the shot...and that's what counts, right? ;-D

I absolutely love photographs taken in mirrors, especially wide-angle mirrors like this. It's a really pretty shot, and a little quirky to boot. Another very nice shot, Cheryl. You're upping the bar in this non-competition.

    Thanks for dropping by :)

  28. It takes a lot to make me shiver in my FMP's. ;)  I might consider letting you borrow my whip for an hour or two, though... But only if I can be on the receiving end. ;)

  39. At first I was going to tell you I'm far too lazy to set up a shot then I remembered that I have once or twice. They always include quite beautiful dragonflies and bees that are quite dead. When it comes to fun and games, my sloth seems to disappear in a heartbeat.

  40. I really like the wide angle perspective and that house is very interesting.  Great photo!  But I didn't realize that the cows in New England were so vain.
