30 Days of Photographs II: The Future

Since I'm desperately attempting to stay ahead of the curve ball headed straight for my face, I only know this is scheduled to post on Wednesday. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure this is the last Wednesday of the challenge.

I'm fairly certain the other clowns in this circus are as anxious as I am for this to end. If you can, please check in on them to see how they're holding up.

Mike WJ, Ziva, 00dozo, Bryan, Elizabeth A., John Nonamedufus, Katherine, Kristen, LaughingMom, Malisa, Mariann, Meleah, Mo, Nicky & Mike, Nora, and Tanya.

Tomorrow's prompt is: My Toothbrush. Wow.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the moment I saw the list of prompts, I knew exactly what I wanted to post for The Future.
On a glorious day in late March, the temperature rose to over 85° F. Once I finished working, I tossed on a swimsuit, grabbed my beach gear and camera, and flew down to the beach.
I've always believed that children are our future. I'm apoplectic underwhelmed terrified a bit concerned with the now-adult children who hold the keys to effect change in the world. I do have hope that today's little ones will be better equipped to find ways to make this a better place when they come of age.
Of all the photos I've snapped of kids since this began, I finally chose this one. Behind this barely-walking tot sits a woman in the twilight of her life. I hope we do well by both of them.
  1. Out of all the  pictures you've taken, I think by far this is the one that has touched my heart the most.   It was such a wise choice to include the two generations.
  3. Nice shot. I like that you end with the contrast of the young and the old. One has seen a lot. The other has a lot to see. Great.
  5. I wish the focus had been a little clearer on the woman in the bikini in the distant background. :)
  6. I love the juxtaposition here. Fantastic shot that captures both the future and the past.
  7. That is another beautiful shot and I love that you chose the two ages to demonstrate your point.
  8. Innocence and experience. They could learn from each other!
  9. Too stinking cute!  I have GOT to get a hat like that!
  10. Oh my word, this is definitely my favorite of the day! The old & the young together like this? Awesome. I especially like how the old is all out of focus. Damn. Fantastic!
  11. Delightful photo. I don't always look down when I'm walking, and that's when I trip on something. This little one knows the drill, though, a lesson probably reinforced by the bandaid on her right knee.
    Love it.
  12. This is amazingly touching.  I love the clarity of the baby and the haziness of the old lady.  Very interesting photo!
  13. Stunning photo, the focus, the pink, and the blurry beach are superb.
  14. This is a wonderful photo, Cheryl, the color is perfect, and the subject even more so. You did a fantastic job on this one. :) Also, I cannot believe it's beach weather in your part of the world. I so need to move.
  15. Oh yes, that's a good one! And I hope we do well by them, too.
    =)
  16. Really great photo and perfect for the theme. Did you take this during that mini heat wave that happened in March?
  17. LOL, I can't believe it: You made me look!
  18. The floppy hat, the straps falling down, the Band-Aid on the knee... :-)
  19. Amazing shot Cheryl! The clarity of the little girl with the blurriness of the woman... spectacular!
  20. Children are definitely the future.  This little one looks like she's carefully making her own way toward it.   Great photo, Cheryl!
    This is my favorite photo of the day, specifically because you managed to get a young girl and an elderly woman in the same frame, capturing the Future with nothing but a picture better than anything else I've seen.  Amazing, wonderful work -- and it was work, Cheryl.
  23. A very moving photo.  I, too, hope we do right by the children of the future, but in reality I think they're pretty much screwed.
  24. Holy COW.  You have captured future in a way that no one could.  The way you have the elder and the younger... with the younger in front.  Very VERY well done.
  25. Love that youth is in focus and old age is out of focus and fading. What a symbolic, beautiful photo!
  26. Oh please, suck up! No one else is. ;-)
  27. Thanks dufus. Both have so much to learn and teach us, don't they?
  28. Of course you do. I was sitting next to a couple of women you'd have been drooling over. Sadly for you, I didn't shoot them or any other women. The kids are the thing that makes a day at the beach so fun.
  29. Exactly! (From what I could see as I stared through my lens in the older woman's general direction, she appeared to be with grandkids or nieces and nephews.)
  30. If I knew her or her parents I'd find out where to snag one of those. Since I don't, my first thought is that it looks pretty easy to make. Sew much?
  31. I'm so glad you noticed that detail! I had a couple of other shots much like this but that bandaid wasn't as clear in them.
  32. Thanks Ziva. That heat wave lasted 2 days. We've had a hard frost since then and the weather's turned April cold again. Most of us are completely screwed up about our expectations. Those 2 days were so May-like, we all were ready to start planting our gardens and started worrying about why our flowers haven't bloomed yet. Weather does make us all quite mad.
  33. Yep. Two days of summer in late March. Something I'll cherish forever because the cold weather and I don't get along well.
    ReplyDelete
  34. All those little details plus the older woman in the background were just too hard to resist.
    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks Nicky. Such a wonderful day. The only folks at the beach were the very young, very old, or the middle group who blew off work!
    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks 00. Not as carefully as she appears at first glance. Check out the bandaid on her knee. She was a bit wobbly but oh so determined.
    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks Jo. It was such a beautiful day to watch all the little ones.
  38. Thanks Katherine. Next to birds in flight, capturing images of kids is one of my favorite ways to sling my camera.
    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks Jayne. I'm pretty sure you're right.
  40. Thanks Mike. I've been using this challenge to better compose my shots. That was the work. Most folks think my passion is what lies in nature. To a great extent, it is. What really brings me joy is kids. Being able to catch them unaware delighting in life makes my whole body giggle.
  41. A bit but that hat is outside my skill level.
  42. At this point, I'd have to say it's waaaaaaaay outside mine. ::blows dust off sewing machine::
