Stopping for a Spell
It's a good sign that Spring is near when the birds that overwinter here become more active. An even stronger indication that we're nearing Winter's end is when the *flocking birds start hanging out in trees, on power lines, and pretty much anydamnwhere they want to.
It ain't always pretty.
*This word choice is not accidental. I hope to be able to publish that post next week.

i am all for spring....
ReplyDeleteNothing is growing here but a few birds are on the move so I'm pretty sure spring is near! YAY!
ReplyDeleteThe crows have started hanging around near our pond again. They know that copulating frogs are a tasty target.
ReplyDeleteAre they starlings, then?
ReplyDeleteMy husband has photographed some darling little redpolls lately. I must get busy and put the photos on my computer.
Looking forward to next week's post, Cheryl. LOL
K
But, that picture sure is pretty!
ReplyDeleteNot sure, Kay. I'll be posting a series I took last week. It was dusk so it was really difficult to tell which smaller black bird they are. Let's just say that except for this shot, the rest are pretty freaky. Hitchcockian freaky.
ReplyDeleteI keep shooting flowers as though I am having spring at my place, Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is a good candidate for Scott's photo assignment which is abstract photography! Cool!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the typical European Starling silhouette. Impossible to see colors when backlit such as that! But around here they have developed their speckled feathers and bright yellow beaks. And you are right on about them gathering in large groups. It's as if they are plotting some dastardly deed!
ReplyDeleteThey are having a special meeting eh?
ReplyDeleteMy Critter Post, have a blessed weekend.
Yes, it worries me too when I see them hanging on electric posts! Ahh, the season is changing for you and so are the energies. Go with the flow and laugh at yourself ;-) like I do . . .
ReplyDeleteFantastic silhouettes, Cheryl! Love it!
ReplyDeleteNice silhouette Cheryl - sure look like Starlings to me.
ReplyDeleteNice silhouettes of tree and birds!
ReplyDeleteWow! cool shot of birds on the tree.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, the large flocks seem to hang out wherever thy want . Have a happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI am ready for spring, but I would l would like one REAL snow before we change seasons. I did not know about the birds flocking at this time...that was so interesting to learn. I will now have a new take on them bunched up on the power lines. This is a pretty shot, and the blue sky with the silhouetted birds in front is lovely. Have a nice Sunday. Genie
ReplyDeleteLook to be starlings? I really like the silhouette you've created.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at Your Sunday Best. :)
We've got a flock of blackbirds that are driving us crazy lately!
ReplyDelete=)
Hi Cheryl. Living on a north-south flyway allows folks like you and me to see how it ain't always perty. :-) Grackles, for instance. One is ugly. One thousand is a nightmare. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo! :)
ReplyDeletewould like to know what they are chatting about. :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wish we were a destination for some of the prettier birds. I'd take a day of seeing a Cedar Waxwings over some of the birds who come and stay. I actually think one grackle is pretty gorgeous in the right light. More than one in any light is butt-ugly.
