Fourteen still yet to finish
Think I got 'em all

seaside rock with a quartz vein
behold yonder cloud

I Wish Our Children A World of Love, Safety, and Respect

Courtesy of Google images

I am Guan-Yin protector of children

In my world no child ever suffers more pain
than the bumps, bruises, and breaks—the folly
of youthful adventure and risk-taking

I am Guan-Yin and children are revered for their differences

Children of both sexes are never exposed to the cruelty
of bigots whose intolerance is bred of ignorance and fear
cookie-cutter children don't exist in my world
each child is a unique shining beacon of hope

I am Guan-Yin protector of infants and toddlers

Baby girls aren't raped by trusted grandfathers and brothers
leaving behind hazy memories of something not quite right
growing up being told nothing ever happened as they
slowly spiral down into the hell of addiction or worse

I am Guan-Yin and I don't allow children to be stolen

A nine-year old girl is never kidnapped from her home
whereabouts unknown for 10 horrifyingly long months
identified by dental records when tiny bones encased in filthy sheets
are found in the trunk of an abandoned car rusting in the woods

I am Guan-Yin protector of the innocent women-children

A young teen-aged girl walking across the bridge
on her way home in the dusky rain-soaked evening
is never offered a ride by a male acquaintance
raped at knife-point and left forever changed

I am Guan-Yin enforcer of healthy boundaries for all children

A teen-aged girl working in the family business
is never given inappropriate gifts by a married man
grabbed onto and forcibly kissed while she pushes back
her mother never scoffs telling her she overreacted

I am Guan-Yin and I protect those who can't protect themselves

Never will four 21-year old young women travel
to Nawlins for Mardi Gras for wild adventure
3 out of 4 saying no—raped—believing it was
their fault for drinking one too many Hurricanes

I am not Guan-Yin—I knew each of these children
those of us who survived are still haunted by memories
we share a common bond of abuse without justice
our silence driven by fear, shame, and guilt

As bloggers many of us receive requests for help. Alexandra forwarded an email to me from Country-Fried Mama. Tuesday, September 28, we're linking up our blog posts to help raise awareness for the work of the Joyful Heart Foundation.
"Mariska [Hargitay, Detective Olivia Benson on “Law & Order: SVU"] founded Joyful Heart in 2004 with the intention of helping survivors heal and reclaim their lives. Today, Joyful Heart's mission is to heal, educate, and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues."
My perfect world for children includes far more than I've written about today. For now, I'll stay on point and write about the things I know that relate to the work of Joyful Heart.

I am Guan-Yin and I believe all children deserve to live in a world that doesn't yet exist

Country-Fried Mama is hosting the link-up for all who care to participate by sharing their hopes and dreams for their children. Please join us on Tuesday. See you there.

How many people have you known who would make your list of those who survived, are still struggling to find their way back, or never came home?

Farewell Rainbow Warriors. Hello Corelle! Huh? Silliness R Us.

Dear Rainbow Warriors,

I've been holding out on you.

First, I've never told you why I call y'all that silly name. I'll fill you in on that later.

The other thing I've been keeping to myself is that many weeks ago I was given a $45 CSN Stores gift certificate to give away. Yes sirree and indeedy do, I was. Eileen seems to be fond of me. I think she's nifty.

Did y'all know that CSN Stores sells everything from home decor to Corelle to Halloween costumes for your dog? Well, now you do.

Since this is the wrap-up post for the summer of extreme color, I thought now was the time to do this giveaway. I know many of you struggled with the colors. As a thank you for putting one foot in front of the other each week and getting it done, I'm hosting this in your honor. Without you, I'd have had nothing colorful to read all summer long.

This is the piece of Corelle I'd buy for my mom. To keep this in theme, I added the name of this design in violet. Now it's rainbowlicious!
How far into my cheek is my tongue? Ooooh, purty darn far. Not about Corelle, no sirree and no ma'am. The whole rainbow thing is making me silly.

Why does writing about rainbows cause me to giggle? Because I looooove this man.

Most folks call him Jeff Gordon. To me, he'll always be THE JEFF.

My love for him is the very worst kind of love—forbidden and unrequited.

I'm married.

He's married.

Not to each other.

He doesn't know I exist.

Besides that photo above, I have very little else of this man.

Sure, I have this picture of the fire suit he wore as a young NASCAR driver when he was nicknamed the Rainbow Warrior.

And this picture of the side panel from a car he drove.

And I'd own this if it didn't reside behind burglar-proof glass. Instead I've got another picture.

I downloaded this from google so now I have this image too.

During his less than stellar NASCAR season, I've needed something to keep my mind off my unrequited love (and frustration at the constant 2nd to 15th place finishes). You folks have become like Rainbow Warriors to me. We've shared a very strange journey. We've traded stories about the colors of the rainbow. I've learned what ROY G BIV means. And gosh darn it, each week when The Jeff lost the prior week's race, you were there.

To show my appreciation, I'm coming clean and holding the giveaway at the end of this twisted winding road.

Here's some information you'll need to enter.

This is the rear end of my car. I rainbowed it up some for my visit to the speedway in April.

It's a 2002 Nissan Altima made in TN and purchased in late 2001.

Most of my immediate family members live about 50 miles away.

My friends live much closer.

I've never driven it further than 200 miles one way.

I drive fasssssssssst but not far.

According to NADA and Kelly Blue Book, the mileage on my car is indicative of being driven by a blue-haired woman in her 90s.

I'm thinking of a number between 60,000 and 100,000.

How many miles has the Altima been driven as of 3:00 p.m. September 15th?

This time around, I'm asking that you be a follower to enter. In the past I haven't asked this and have had to hunt the winner down like a dog travel all over the blogosphere looking for the right Boy Named Sue jump through hoops to let folks know they've won. Oy, my head.

Oh snap! I almost forgot.

Whoever comes closest to the actual mileage WINS! In the event of a tie, I'll resort to using Random.Orgies for assistance.

Please have your entry in by 11:09 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, September 21. That gives me 24 hours to write a post before fall arrives like a ton of icy cold bricks and breaks my heart into a bazillion pieces. After that I won't be much good to anyone.

I've had enough for the day. How about you? Yeah, I thought so. It's been emotional and exciting and all but sometimes it just has to end.

The gift certificate can be used in any one of the 200+ CSN Stores for anything your heart desires. Open to US and Canadian residents.

I was in no way compensated by CSN Stores to write a post about this giveaway. I still think Eileen really, really likes me.

All locked and loaded and headed over to Jenny's to bid adieu to the Rainbow Warriors. Why not join us?

A-Z au Naturel ~ I got clouds!

This is the continuation of my own personal challenge to find images in nature for each letter of the alphabet. My goal is to capture a cloud photo for all 26 letters.

Phew tough one to do—
take a look down there at that
piece of real estate

The sky is endless
going on fore'er—this is a
wee slice of heaven

Can y'all see two Is
in this big ol' mess of clouds?
Look down—there they are

I

The rest were just a
touch more easy to find and
bring down here for you

Clouds are ice crystals
high up above—when too close
to the sun they melt

Linking up to ABC Wednesday. Please come see what the others have found this week.

September 11, 2001

There was a moment in time on each of these dates when I stood frozen in front of the flickering images on my TV stunned by what I saw. Sometimes those moments turned into days.

"Our greatest hopes and
our worst fears are seldom realized."

~ Jim McCay

On each of these days at least one of our worst fears was realized. I carry a feeling of after for every one. After each, everything changed and some of our greatest hopes were lost forever.

In Memoriam

The Saturday Centus prompt is in bold.

I mean no disrespect by including these other dates along with the day we honor today. For me, innocence died on November 22, 1963. With each subsequent event I saw the world as a little less sane and safe.

08 September 2010

I spent more time trying to cleverly title this post than I did writing it.

All
shades
of yellow
are complementary colors
to the purple family's hues.
So yeah, I
had to
do
it.

Bumbling around on
the violet statice that ne'er
quite fully blossoms

Completely happy
to buzz around all day long—
w00t! this one's alive

I love creating
something new from the old to
inspire illusions

When the sun hits them
obliquely magic occurs
pure bliss—fantasia

Zoomed in tightly
to view the treasure of a
tiny fairy world
